Joe LoPresti runs RD Delivery, a third-party logistics operation that picks orders at Restaurant Depot and delivers them to restaurants. Two years ago he was running it on spreadsheets, phone calls, and a stack of separate tools. Today thirteen locations run on one system.

What it looked like before

Pickers worked from printouts. Orders were highlighted by hand and notes were written in the margins. Customers called the office to ask where their delivery was, and someone answered the same question all day. At month end, a distributor payout report arrived and somebody matched it line by line against a sheet.

The tooling was stacked, not integrated.

I was tired of piecemealing. I'm using this for this, I'm using this for this — it was driving me crazy. I needed everything in house.

What changed

RD Delivery moved onto Drofilla in September 2025 and ran 963 orders that first month.

Orders arrive without data entry. Order emails are parsed into orders — items, customer, address, delivery window — and the customer gets a text with a tracking link before anyone on the team opens the message.

Six-step order journey from email intake through picking, delivery proof, customer messaging, and payout reconciliation

Pickers work from their phones. Large orders split across dry, cold, and frozen zones so several people pick at once. Substitutions and out-of-stocks go back to the customer as a single message at the end of picking, not one text per item.

Customers ask the system, not the office. A dedicated number answers questions about timing, adds items, and removes them — updating the order while it's being picked, with the picker notified in real time.

Dispatch is one screen. Routes, statuses, progress, who's late and who's done.

This is where I live on a daily basis. I can see what everybody's doing, how long it's been, who's late, who's on time, what's done.

Month end is a file upload. Distributor payout reports go in; Drofilla maps the columns and matches lines to orders. Across 483 reports and 44,728 lines, 96% matched automatically — reconciled without opening a spreadsheet.

The team took to it faster than he expected

I thought they were gonna resist, especially my California guys — these guys are so stubborn. They were used to manually highlighting, writing down notes. They can't believe that we used to do it like that anymore.

Where they are now

twelve months in, RD Delivery runs 1,668 orders a month — up 73% — across thirteen locations in California, Florida, and the Midwest, with the count rising in ten of those twelve months.

This is the only reason why I can open up in all these different markets and still have some sort of sanity. I don't have to deal with the day-to-day mundane sort of things.
